The Benefits of Agile Recruitment.

Published 3rd June 2022

There are many benefits to be gained once an Agile Recruitment Strategy has been adopted.

  • Frequent feedback: One of the core principles of agile methodology is the ability to make quick improvements to the process. With Agile Recruitment you can make improvements on the go which enhances team collaboration. Within your recruitment process, agile recruiting enables you to request, collect, and action any feedback at any time. This is achieved by ensuring your hiring manager is a contributor to the process. Additionally, it is important to gain a better understanding of the requirements needed, with hiring managers being clear on their skills needs and what their end goal is. If however a manager does change the goalpost, if a collaborative approach is adopted, you are able to shift quickly and not waste time.
  • Greater flexibility: By taking an agile approach, you can adjust workflows quickly if your needs or deadlines shift.
  • Analytics: In this day being able to analyse past trends or even past results assists in shaping the needs of the future. By continuous monitoring of results, you will be able to understand which recruitment methods work best and which do not. Data can also be used to track delays and show where your process isn’t functioning optimally. A sub-optimal process can result in loss of candidates and cause brand damage. By analysing this data, you can adjust on the go.
  • Improved productivity: The agile methodology facilitates faster and more effective collaboration; in addition to improved productivity. Team members should be in constant communication, operating on one platform where all details are easily accessible (like an agile board). From one convenient dashboard, team members can share candidate ratings, create team tasks, prioritise work, and lots more.
  • Speed: It is a well-known phenomenon that recruitment companies have a bad reputation with candidates and managers who complain regularly about how painfully slow and poorly communicated recruitment processes are. This pain goes away with the adoption of an agile approach. Regular feedback touchpoints throughout the process with different stakeholders including candidates is important. These touch points can be automated using a recruitment software that is geared to this.
  • Stakeholder engagement: An agile recruitment approach ensures all stakeholders are invested in the process as they are actively involved in specific tasks with certain phase of the process being dependent on their action or decision-making. The overall approach is high-tough engagement, ensuring gaps are identified and filled as quickly and as well coordinated possible.
  • Customer journey: The agile recruitment approach ensures the customer experience is desirable at each touchpoint within the recruitment process.
  • Cost to hire: Transparency of the total cost of bringing a new hire into the organisation is achieved through an accurate and timeous recruitment process. An Agile Recruitment process allows for efficiencies throughout the process and ensures no time wastage.

  • Extended talent pools: Attracting the right talent at the right time and in the quickest time frame is one of the number one challenges each organisation faces. Coupled with skills shortages experienced in SA means having a talent pool ready to go has become an extra strategy in each company’s back pocket, or so we hope.Building a talent Pool can be a labour-intensive exercise and if not correctly managed can become one of those big efforts completed a year ago and will be continuously redone. Talent pools limited to a company’s immediate network or geographical location will fail to attract enough candidates to address skills gaps. By leveraging a service provider who offers recruitment technology that assist you in building and maintaining a talent pool can ensure your company can access the broader market.

  • Strategic Workforce Planning: In your talent acquisition strategy, an RPO service provider will initiate a strategic workforce planning program to help forecast future needs. This planning not only takes into account internal competencies and goals, but also includes market research, competitive analysis and other external data that assists in making accurate predictions. By implementing a strong strategic workforce plan you plan for the future by avoiding talent shortages or surpluses and align your talent management plan with your company strategy.
  • Scalability: In reviewing a partnership with a provider consider the RPO’s ability to scale resources with hiring volume fluctuations that you may encounter. We all have times of increased need, the launch of a new product or service, or growth initiatives. Your true RPO providers become a trusted partner when they are able to flex up and down by utilizing their company resources optimally at a lower cost than what you would incur by expanding your team or loss of productivity by placing additional burden on existing teams.

Companies today look to partner with service providers who provide business insight, innovation, and industry expertise. Service Providers must be adaptable and agile and provide solutions that are fit for purpose, coupled with a commitment for continuous improvement.

The term cost-plus value proposition is one that comes to mind – where one should review the operational delivery as a strategic objective and not just as another tick box.  The above statement leads one to the questions of how a company implements this and how does one ensure clients receive a high-performance service that delivers business value.
